San Jose: Police ask for public’s help to find kidnapping suspect

SAN JOSE — Police are asking the public to help track down a possibly dangerous man suspected in two recent kidnapping attempts.

David Lee Russell, 56, is accused of physically assaulting and trying to kidnap a young female victim near Meridian and Hamilton avenues around 5 p.m. last Monday, Aug. 29, according to San Jose police. On Thursday, police say the attacker struck again, assaulting and trying to kidnap another young female victim near Hillsdale and Narvaez avenues around 5 p.m.

Russell, a transient known to frequent San Jose, is a convicted sex offender who has committed previous violent assaults against women and is considered “extremely dangerous,” according to police. He is white, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 200 pounds, with salt-and-pepper hair and a goatee. Police believe Russell is driving a newer-model white Nissan Rogue with no license plates.

Police ask anyone who may know where Russell is to contact Detective Michael White of the San Jose Police Department’s Robbery Unit at 408-277-4166. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous may call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 408-947-STOP (7867). Tips resulting in Russell’s arrest and conviction may lead to a cash reward from the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers.
